If you have followed along with my photography journey, then you will likely recognize this sweet face. If not, this is my oldest daughter, Blake. She is hilarious, she is a genius, she is as cool and quirky as they come. For her 10 year old portraits, I wanted it to be simple, I wanted it to be done in a nature setting and I hoped that she would actually be able to make eye contact with the camera (hello ADHD).
A Sunny Day in a Beautiful Location!
Not only was I excited to get out and photograph my lovely kid, I was so excited about photographing this location to add to our favorite locations for clients to choose from. It looked just as great as I had hoped!
When selecting her outfits, I made sure that her clothes were pretty formfitting since she is very skinny. I didn’t want it to look frumpy. I also knew a hat would be the perfect accessory. We went with a neutral outfit as well as a brightly colored one. Outfit changes can make it seem like you got more images or at least more variety even if you don’t change locations.
One thing I wish more people would do is get just their child photographed alone to celebrate their birthdays. Not even every year, but big birthdays like 5, 10, 13, etc. It seems that so many families get tons of photos of their babies during the first year, then they do a 2 year portrait, then they just get a shot or two of their children individually at family sessions. This is better than nothing of course, but when I am alone with a child and it can be all about them for the entire session, magic happens. If you are interested in trying a session like this at a discounted rate, click the contact button and ask about the “Just Me” pricing. It’s a shorter session focusing on just one child.
Happy 10 years Blake! Being your mom is my biggest joy and greatest honor!
