Being a Dallas pet and family photographer, I love when people bring along their furry friends to their photo sessions! I know it seems like a pain to bring them along, but the end result is always worth it!

Here are a few tips on bringing your dogs to a family photo shoot.

  1. Please let us know if you are bringing your pets way ahead of time. When choosing a location for your shoot, there are a few locations that do not allow animals, or that we know may not be safe for animals.
  2. Have a leash for your dog, even if we are going to a wide open nature area. Just for the dog’s safety and for easier posing, we really prefer to use a leash. In some cases it can be photoshopped out, but in most cases we are able to take it off once the dog is settled.
  3. Bring treats! Just like with kids, the bribery is key. ha!
  4. I have a squeaker that goes on my camera lens that really helps to get the dogs to look, close their mouths and sometimes do a cute little head tilt. If they have a favorite squeak toy, feel free to bring that.
  5. We also don’t typically photograph the dogs for the entire session so make sure they can be loaded back up in the car. We want to have plenty of time to focus on some shots without the chaos of animals.

We squeezed a ton into this shoot! The family and their dogs and the grandparents too! These were taken at sunrise, so the light was lovely. The grandparents were all in town for Liam’s baptism and I know they are so glad to have images of them all together!
