We tell most of our clients when they book a newborn shoot with us that all we really need is a baby to do the session. The Paige Walker Photography studio is stocked with hats, headbands, tie backs, wraps, blankets, rugs, props, all the goods. When we are coordinating what to use for each different newborn session, we usually like to buy a couple of new items to make the session even more unique and customized. But what if you want to bring some stuff from home? What if your best friend gave you an adorable blanket that you just have to use? What if you wanted to bring some kind of ancient family heirloom? That’s perfect! We love it!
The first thing you should do is narrow down your personal prop stash to 2 or 3 items. Step 2, email or text a photo of each thing you plan on bringing to the session to Lauren or I. We have a database of session colors and props that we will add it to so that we are better prepared and have time to think about exactly how we want to use them.
We get to the studio way before the shoot to set up. This helps the session go as quickly as possible and makes transitions seamless. We have a shot list planned out with colors and props that we know will work well, and have thought about each transition before baby even arrives. Your props will be strategically placed in our flow so we won’t be left just throwing something together last minute.
Personal props can add so much to a session, let’s work together to create something awesome!!
Sam’s mom brought a beautiful monogrammed blanket and that amazing rhinoceros head. I love how they turned out and so did Sam’s family!
